So what are the major differences between reality based self-defence training and regular old school martial arts? In my opinion the most important parts of both definitions of self defense and martial arts is to ultimately become a better fighter between armed and unarmed opponents.

One of the major differences between the two is that in martial arts training systems, they are designed for combat with ranks, belt colors and a larger learning curve considering that it is a traditional martial art. I highly agree that any type of traditional martial arts training you do is extremely beneficial to improve your self-defence training.

There are also flaws however with sport based combat arts that claim to have valid self-defence training incorporated in their system. The biggest sport based martial arts that don’t work are like Taekwondo. This fighting style has no real working value in street fights or reality based martial arts training.

However there are also a lot of different self-defense and martial arts fighting styles that I highly recommend that are exclusively designed for self defence-training. These styles include: Krav Maga, Jeetkunedo Concepts and Karate. There are also other types of martial arts as well as hybrid self defense systems that are just as good.

Ultimately studying a traditional martial art and a self-defense system will help improve your core foundation in self-defence scenarios and street fighting. You need to know the techniques that are easy to rely on, memorize and use in emergency. If you want to become an even better fighter I recommend you try reading Bruce Lee’s thoughts on philosophy of combat.

Be as in shape and healthy as you can be and remember that martial arts are limited only to the amount of time you have practiced them, that make them easy to remember and use a life or death battle on the street. Train hard every day, do cardio, lift weights, eat healthy. This will both improve your physical capabilities of fighting as well as help you to progress in any traditional martial arts training style you do.

Get the very best from the martial arts by constantly absorbing as much information and techniques as you can. The more skilled and wise fighter always wins the battle. And another thing to remember is that it takes constant practice to become a better fighter.

—————————————————-
Another thing I highly recommend is that you learn about my prison based approach to self defense training here now:

Would you like to learn some self-defense moves you can incorporate into any style of martial arts training you are currently in right now or an art you have practiced in the past? In today’s article I would like to share some extremely valid martial arts techniques that will greatly improve your chances of winning in a reality based self-defense situation. Say if you are mugged or attacked while out in your daily life, the following tips have been taken from prison based combat and these are guaranteed to work no matter your age, size or skill level.

Learn self-defense moves #1 – One of the first techniques you are going to learn that works very effectively is the eye gouge. When you see a UFC fight end in disqualification because one of the fighters got poked in the eye, let that be a lesson. Being poked in the eye can cause extreme damage and extreme pain. It can also interrupt and impede the vision of your attacker. So if your punches aren’t working while you are defending against being attacked your best move from there forward is to slam your fingers into your attackers eye sockets.

Learn self-defense moves #2 – Another great move that works always against male attackers is kicking or knee striking the groin area. It is easy to remember and works as long as you do it right. But don’t think you are limited to just kicks or knee strikes, if you are able to pull, rip, squeeze, claw, bite, or whatever you can do, it can cause an attack to end abruptly with your would be attacker running away in extreme pain.

Learn self defense moves #3 – The last martial arts technique I would like to pinpoint in this article is attacking the throat of your opponent. If you can smash him in the windpipe with a swift chop or punch, you can cut off his air supply which can also impede him from wanting to carry on his plans of hurting you.

Being knowledgeable about what works in a street based self defense scenario is extremely important so be aware of what works and what doesn’t and be sure to practice daily. Honing your coordination and cardiovascular training is highly important to be ready for a reality based self defense encounter. Always be vigilant and ready for attack.

—————————————————-
Become deadlier and a much better skilled fighter by learning this quick, prison based self defense fighting system that will turn you into a warrior over here now:

If you are enrolled in full time classes in a martial arts school you will know and value the importance of good conditioning. In todays article I would just like to outline some pointers that are taken from the best of martial arts fitness and show you some valid training you can use and do at home. Being in good shape is of vital importance when it comes to being prepared for reality based self defense so be aware of this, and try to implement the following fitness strategies below.

Best martial arts fitness training tip #1 – The very best training that I have noticed that works and doesn’t cost a dime on a gym membership are your basics. What I mean is doing things like squats, doing push ups as well as crunches and any other exercises you can do at home. This will improve your over all strength and muscular endurance, which is very important to developing better skills in your martial arts dojo as well as your fitness levels.

Best martial arts fitness training tip #2 – If you can afford a gym pass by all means get one. What you want to do is ultimately go three to four times a week for an hour a day. You want to develop your muscles through out your body giving your strikes and kicks more power. Remember that the more power you have ultimately will give you the greater advantage against any opponent you face whether on the streets or in a tournament.

Best martial arts fitness training tip #3 – I highly recommend you do a daily regimen of cardio endurance training. This can be anything from going for fast walks, to jogging outside, to playing sports, to training in a gym. As long as you are raising your heart rate and getting a good sweat and heavy breathing you will be improving how long you can last in a street fight or martial arts tournament.

Incoporate these best nartial arts training tips and become the best martial artist you can possibly be with the three tips above! Continue pursuing your knowledge of self defene by reading more articles like this one and by also reading books and studying videos on youtube. If you can afford to take classes at a local dojo in your area that would be a great option as well!

—————————————————-
Another thing I highly suggest is that you take your self defense training to a higher level and become a warrior, turning you into a deadly one person wrecking crew! Get the best kept martial arts secrets here:

The following article contains basic self-defense tactics and knowledge giving you the skills and ability to stay alive and protect yourself when attacked. Follow the five simple self-defence tactics I have listed below and learn to incorporate them into your martial arts training too.

Basic self-defense tactics #1 – If you are physically smaller then your attacker try using eye gouges to your attackers eyes instead of punching him with your counter attacking techniques. Different self-defense techniques like Krav Maga and others show you this technique and it works very well so use it!

Basic self-defense tactics #2 – Be training in a martial arts that uses the self-defense tactics you may have already. You want to be able to blend and use different styles of combat and street fighting into your collection of training methods. You want to know the moves work and you want to know how to do them properly in the middle of a stressful situation.

Basic self-defense tactics #3 – Some of the best tactics and training you can get from traditional styles of martial arts come from: Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiujutsu, Judo, Full Contact Karate, and phillipino styles! You want to broaden your horizens with your street fighting moves to give you the best advantage to your fighting skills when you will need them in real life.

Basic self-defense tactics #4 – A big basic comment here is to stay healthy and be active at all times. Monitor your weight and eat healthy foods. Incorporate daily exercise into your routine. Being physically active will give you a much greater advantage in a life or death street battle then being weaker and out of shape.

Basic self-defense tactics #5 – My final bit of knowledge is to live passively. Don’t go looking for trouble or trying to start or get into fights. If anything the best place to fight is inside the dojo, so avoid confrontation when you can. It could easily save your life.

Those are five basic self-defense training facts you should incorporate into your training starting today. I have fought for most of my life behind prison bars, and in nightclubs as a bouncer. The stuff I have just taught you is the real deal when it comes to self-defense and martial arts training. Always do your best to be the best protector you can be!

—————————————————-

If you want to learn the best methods on how to win a street fight against your opponent I think you would like to hear my advice. I am a former inmate turned night club bouncer. I have had my fair share of battles on the street and in the nightclubs and not to mention behind prison bars. I have put together another collection of my best points and martial arts tips you can use to incorporate into your training to become a better fighter. You are reading this article to learn how to win a street fight so follow these methods to inflict pain and damage on anyone that causes problems with you.

Learn how to street fight tips #1 – Biting is a method of causing serious damage and pain! Do you remember the fight in professional boxing, where boxer, Mike Tyson, bit off his opponents ear in the middle of a live pay per view fight? It was messed up! However this method of causing damage to your enemy is very real and works great. Other then having to be aware of blood based diseases, if your life is in danger and all you are able to do to defend yourself correctly is biting, well, this is a move that works and it works great. So use it.

Learn how to street fight tips #2 – When you are using kicks in your assault against your enemy, by all means keep your kicks lower on his body. Do not kick above his waist. Instead target his knee caps, inner thighs, feet, groin, ankles, and spinal bone. Trying to kick someone high on drugs trying to kill you, by kicking him with a knockout spinning Hollywood style kick to the head won’t work. Chances are your opponent will knock you to the ground and finish you off with whatever his evil intentions are for attacking you. Learn this lesson. Keep your feet and your kicks below the waist. You will have better odds of causing damage.

Learn how to street fight tips #3 – Always keep your eyes and ears aware of your surroundings. Don’t take the people or the environment you are in for granted. There are many different and dangerous people everywhere you go. People high on drugs, people with angry thinking ready to lash out on strangers, people with roadrage driving our streets and domestic violence happens too. Be aware of everything in your immediate environment to be better prepared to defend against a potential attack at all times. It may sound paranoid, but it will keep you safer.

I know that all these methods you have just learned on how to street fight will give you an advantage in your martial arts training. Take your self defense training seriously and get the most out of your martial arts training that you can to become the best fighter you can be!

—————————————————-

Free Martial Arts Training Lessons Taken From The Streets!

I myself have been in a lot of combat situations including bar fights as a bouncer, street brawls as well as organized fighting tournaments. I would like to impart some tales of wisdom and advice you can use from my years of street combat experiences, These techniques and training methods will help to make you more knowledgeable with self defense and martial arts training including traditional arts.

Free martial arts training lesson #1 – If you can avoid trouble at all costs. If you can stay away from getting into street fight situations or getting involved with a trouble maker when you can back down do it. Who cares if somebody wants to steal the thirty dollars in your wallet, and take the credit cards you can cancel at your bank. It would be a much better story to tell your friends how you got mugged and walked away alive, then being in a hospital suffering from stab wounds.

Free martial arts training lesson #2 – Even if you excel in sport based martial arts combat it might not completely prepare you for the stresses and very real danger of a life or death attack on the street. You want to incorporate as much street based self defense training into your martial arts regimen that you can possibly do. There are many different styles of fighting that are primarily focused on self defense. So look into them and also continue studying traditional styles of combat.

Free martial arts training lesson #3 – When you feel that you are in immediate danger and the fight is imminent, be the very first one to attack and use different techniques and strikes to subdue your opponent. Being the first to attack gives you the element of surprise and another big aspect of winning a fight is being the most aggressive person in the situation. Once the fight has commenced fight hard and only retreat if your safety demands it. Being able to stun your would be attacker with a violent barrage of fists and kicks will set him off his game plan of hurting you.

I hope these three valid martial arts training tactics have given you a more advanced well rounded look at the interplay of martial arts and reality based self defense training. Don’t just finish here though, sign up to a self defense seminar or martial arts school and take your training further.

—————————————————-
Another thing I highly suggest is that you take your self defense training to a higher level and become a warrior, turning you into a deadly one person wrecking crew! Get the best kept martial arts secrets here:

Martial arts is cool. Flying through the air. Taking on, and disabling or killing, multiple opponents in a manner of moments. Snapping bones and breaking joints with little effort. Fantastic! Sign me up! Oh wait, that was the latest movie or TV show I was watching. Bruce Lee made a fortune in the entertainment industry and thrilled a generation of people.

Bruce Lee was also a master martial artist. Developed his own art. Trained for thousands of hours. And was also a choreographer, director and filmmaker. The movies he was in took weeks or months to film. Take after take after take. To get it so it looked real.

The point here is that is was not real. His opponents, while experts themselves, were not actually trying to injure him. They would not have been paid if he was recuperating in the hospital. And he, quite obviously, was not trying to truly defend himself in a life-threatening situation. But it looked cool!

Martial arts training is, has been, and always will be an excellent investment in time and money. The stretching and strength training keeps the body in very good condition. The discipline needed, and the meditation offered with many styles, keeps the mind in shape. More people should take the courses offered in their area.

So with all the great things that come with martial arts training, the question remains, will it keep you safe in everyday life? The simple answer is, maybe.

Emphasis now days in the arts are geared more towards competitive events and tournaments than on reality based self defense. Actually injuring someone in a tournament is frowned upon and the competitor can have points deducted or be disqualified. Training is more for form than substance.

An attack on the street or in everyday life plays by no rules. People get hurt, maimed or worse. Do or die. There is little time to defend yourself using the vast array of techniques that have been taught. One technique may get you out of a situation and that is one reason to train. But the brutality and swiftness of an attack leaves little time to formulate an elaborate defense, get your breathing correct, calm your mind and perform a disabling technique flawlessly.

Leaving your feet for a flying kick, like in the movies, is not a recommended course of action. You have no idea if you could end up in a worse position than you started with. In fact, the best course of action is to escape the confrontation as quickly as possible. Run as fast as you can if need be. There is honor in fleeing. Ask your family and friends. There usually is no honor in getting beat to a pulp and possibly spending time in the hospital or worse.

Awareness and avoidance of your surroundings, and not putting yourself in a position to defend yourself is oftentimes a much better option than any martial art or self defense training you could receive. Most people have never taken one course and have lived their lives without being in a fight. Were they lucky? Maybe. Should they have gotten some training. Absolutely. But learning some simple skills can keep you safe in most situations.

It may seem rather harsh at first but attacking the eyes of the person that is trying to hurt you may be a necessity. The eyes are one of the most vulnerable parts of the body and they are not well protected. Disrupting or disabling an attacker may give you the possibility of escape. And escaping with no serious injury is the most important aspect of self defense.

Not that it is an easy task but making the attacker unable to see is your objective. This is often the quickest self defense technique you can use. And it does not take great amounts of strength to accomplish. Speed of implementation is crucial though. The faster you are able to get them away from you the better.

You have probably poked yourself in the eye or someone has accidently poked you in the eye. You know from experience that it does not take much for you to start tearing up. There may have been some pain involved as well. The point is it can be uncomfortable for a while and you certainly have a hard time seeing.

The fingers or thumbs are the most instinctive and common way to attack the assailants’ eyes. However, the palm of the hand fits quite nicely into the eye socket. And a knuckle or elbow can be quite effective while possibly delivering a knockout blow. Maximum force should be applied. This is not a Three Stooges skit. This may very well be fighting for your life.

What we are talking about here is driving a finger or thumb deep into the eye or eyes. If you are grabbed from the front or rear your hands are oftentimes free to use as a weapon. It is often pointless to try to strike them with a fist. An enraged person or someone on drugs can be oblivious to pain and may become more enraged that you are trying to defend yourself. But preventing them from seeing or attempting to gouge out one or both of their eyes will certainly get them to release their hold and defend themselves.

Self defense and personal protection is something everyone needs to learn. Just getting in a little better shape to losing a bit of weight can better prepare one to defend themselves. Unfortunately, self defense is important to all women. There are those out there that prey on women exclusively. Female self defense does not necessarily need to be an all encompassing endeavor. There are 2 simple techniques that can be used everyday to protect possibly your most valuable possession. And most women do not even consider it.

One simple way to protect your personal property involves your purse. Do you leave it laying in places that it could easily be taken? Do you hold it in one hand or over one shoulder as you walk? If so you are a prime target for someone looking to snatch a purse with little or no effort. Think you will be able to tighten your hand as he runs by and grabs it out of your hand? Think you will be able to grab the strap as it is pulled off your shoulder?

Think again! He is twice your size and is running down the street as fast as he can. Think you will be able to chase him down? In heels or flip flops. Probably not. He has most likely done this more than once and knows what he is doing. And he has probably never been caught. Your only hope is to try to follow him and pray that he only wants the cash and dumps your purse in an alley or trash can where you or somebody else will find it and turn it in.

OK, so how do you protect yourself from a purse snatching? The best way is to carry it with the strap positioned diagonally across your body with the purse under your forearm or in your hand. Maybe not a fashion statement but much safer. It would be much more difficult for someone to pull it around your body and over your head. Wearing it in this manner could dissuade him from even considering you as his victim. There are too many other women that would make his life easier. In this position your hands are free to carry anything and have your belongings secured.

Another way, safer but not as safe, is to carry it like a football. A running backs main job is to gain yardage. His other job, and possibly the most important, is to hold on to the ball. And there are some big, strong guys on the other side trying to get it away from him. Seems like a pretty safe way to carry a purse as well. One side in your hand, the length under your forearm and the opposite side inside your elbow. Go team! Sorry.

This method is good when there is no strap. The only drawback is that it only allows one free hand. Use this if you do not need to carry anything in both hands.

Implementing one or both of these female self defense techniques will allow some peace of mind. Replacing everything in your purse can take quite a bit of time, effort and money. Canceling all your credit cards, getting a new drivers license, buying a new cell phone, etc. is not something that you have time or inclination to do. Start now so it becomes second nature.

We cannot predict when we may have to use some self defense logic to defend ourselves. There are a number of unusual circumstances in which there is really no amount of preparation to be had. These situations are typically unprovoked attacks that you are not expecting. Home invasion, carjackings, purse snatchings are a few such situations. While these are typically random acts of violence there are things you can do to avoid being a victim.

Home invasions can most times be avoided by being aware of who may be following you and being observant when you arrive at your residence. If you notice someone around the entrance to your home or garage do not open the door and do not get out of your vehicle. Roll up the windows and lock the doors. Drive away from the area if possible and contact law enforcement.

Sometimes you may have provoked someone into following you to your residence by “cutting them off” in traffic while driving. Road rage is becoming more and more of an issue as the highways are becoming more packed with cars and people are spending vast amounts of time trying to get from one place to another. Being mad at other drivers, the government for not building more roads, being late to an appointment, etc. can quickly turn someone into a revengeful person.

If you know or suspect you have angered another driver and want to avoid a confrontation the simple thing to do is apologize. Roll down the window and wave. Most people will realize that you have acknowledged your mistake. Just make sure you are sincere and not appearing to be giving them the “one finger salute”. Another option is if you find yourself beside them in traffic to mouth the word “sorry” when they give you a dirty look. This can do wonders for them and calm them down for the rest of their drive home.

Most carjackings can be avoided by keeping the vehicles doors locked and the windows rolled up. Unless the perpetrator has a weapon they will find a locked door and move on to the next vehicle they see. Even if they have a weapon, unless it is a firearm, you can usually just drive off before they are able to use the weapon. If they do have a weapon and use it to break a window your best option is to get out of the car and let them have it if you are alone. There is an entirely different dynamic if there are children in the vehicle that I will not get into at this time. There are too many variables to deal with in a situation like this.

Purse snatchings can be avoided rather easily as well. A perpetrator will usually look for someone not paying attention, unaware of their surroundings or not prepared. Besides leaving it unattended, carrying a purse in one hand is the easiest way for you to lose it. Carrying it on one shoulder is the second easiest way to have it snatched. And a strap over one shoulder could get you seriously injured if you try to hold onto the purse or strap after someone grabs it and starts to run.

Keep a purse strap diagonally across your body and hold the purse or keep it tucked securely under your arm. This accomplishes two things. First it lets a would-be attacker know that you have recognized the threat and have planned ahead of time. They may comprehend that you are no one to mess with and wait for the next unsuspecting person.

Second, it is much more difficult to take a purse from someone that has the strap across their entire body. An assailant is looking for a quick and dirty way to get what they are after. There is too much work and time involved for them to get away cleanly with this technique. And in the struggle to get it away from you they could be seriously injured. If you look prepared they realize you probably have additional self defense techniques and training that they would rather not have to deal with.
